Tour de Helsinki route

Tour de Helsinki start and finish took place in the historic Helsinki Velodrome, built to host the cycling events of the 1952 Olympic Games. The first stretch through the city was a slow paced convoy, with competitive riding starting once it reached the more open roads of neighboring Espoo.

The total length of the circular route was 140 kilometers. The service points were located at intervals of approximately 30 km. Maximum time to complete the route was set at seven hours, allowing for a leisurely 20km/h pace.

The terrain in Southern Finland is generally relatively flat, although the route did include some hills to allow for breaking out. The route consists of surfaced roads and the weather in Helsinki during this time is generally nice, so TdF is more relaxed than say cobbled classics.
